DAY OUT AT A LOCAL RETIREMENT HOME- OUR GROUP HAD A LUNCHEON THERE

Del Manor Retirement Home hosted a number of community groups.

The Arts Council was one of them.

Five wonderful, delicious items made fresh by the Chef of the Home.

Even some fresh flowers as garnish made the items attractive.

The red eggs had shrimp and some lobster underneath. The spring roll was so tasty as well.

A fun event with harp music made the event for a couple of hours very enjoyable.

TOMATOES FOR THE FREEZER

 I couldn't help myself.

With a bushel of tomatoes for $10.99 at No Frills today, it was too good to pass up.

And I shopped Canadian as they came from a farm in Vanessa Ontario which is south of Bradford.

I do like canned tomatoes to add to sauce, make a tomatoe sauce or use in sauteed meat.

But with the cost of food the canned tomatoes can be $2.00 a tin.

With many bags of tomatoes cleaned and put in the freezer the price was so much cheaper for this senior.

So I feel like the ant in the grasshopper and ant fable as I prepare for winter.

SEPTEMBER-THE URGE TO SAVE HARVEST FOOD

So a couple of bags of fresh tomatoes in the freezer.

A half dozen cobs of corn cut in half and boiled briefly for winter consumption.

Roasted some red peppers and put them in the freezer.

I used to make jam for the family. Especially Grape jam for Adolph, his favourite.

I do very small batches as I do not eat like a family. I am one person so have to remember.

I am drying the parsley from my back pots that I have now emptied.

Enough rosemary drying as well.

Good for my goal to eat as healthy as possible.
