JUNE 29 1959 THE DI MAMBROS ARRIVED IN CANADA-GRANPA'S LEGACY BEGAN

I wrote a story on my blog of Adolph coming to Canada in 1959.

I wrote Adolph's story on the Pier21 website. Halifax Nova Scotia is the port where immigrants were processed.

To celebrate the beginnings in Canada. And all his good cooking.

REMEMBERING DADS

Celebrating dads is good.

It is their special day.

But missing a Dad is hard too!

So Granpa is missed. Especially his good cooking!

AURORA FARMERS MARKET-MEMORIES OF A 2016 VISIT

Adolph loved going to Farmers Markets.

So in 2016 we visited several of them.

Aurora is right up Yonge Street from Richmond Hill.

Adolph getting ready for the market.
Checking out the goodies.

What friendly vendors.
Fresh Ontario produce.

Love those peas and strawberries. Willowtree farm a place to visit. Close to Port Perry.
Discussing cucumbers.
Love the baked goods.

Street view of the Aurora Farmers Market.

Okay Barb says Adolph- time to go home.

Well it was a good haul. The buttertarts were some of the best I ever tasted. From the bake shop in Newmarket. Sasha's Sweets. Wonder if she is still there!
Maybe it's time to go to this market again. It is still going strong in mid Aurora.
Oh those farmers markets.

JUNE BIRTHDAY AND GRADUATIONS TO CELEBRATE

Celebrations were always Adolph's time to shine with his good cooking skills.

From barbecues to homemade pasta and veggie dishes, celebrations always had Adolph's touch.

Like a swiss chard and zucchini pizza with simple salad for a simple Friday night meal.

Oh we sure miss granpa and his culinary touch.

REMEMBERING GRANPA FROM OUR HONEYMOON 1971 IN WAIKIKI HAWAII

Granpa always loved to cook. He helped his Mom when he was at home.

Even in her last Christmas Eve dinner he was there in the kitchen helping her.

I love this picture of Adolph making us pancakes on our Honeymoon in Waikiki  Hawaii. From my honeymoon notes he made other food as well. Spaghetti with sauce. Scrambled eggs and toast.

He found good places for other takeout food.

As we all know Granpa liked to cook but he liked to eat more.

MAY-BEGINNING OF BARBECUE SEASON

 Okay.

I do not have a barbecue anymore. But I have been buying steaks to bring to a family's barbecue soon.

Barbecues are great. But other events occur. Like an outdoor picnic with fried chicken, potato salad and tomatoes.

Simple food for outdoors.

The barbecue spread with bean salad, hot dogs, hamburgers, steak.

Fresh buns.

Pickles and cheese. Yes olives!!

Can you smell the meat cooking?

Oh barbecue season. Outdoor eating. Picnics. Time on the road or at the cottage.

CANASCIONE FOR EASTER-THE CIOCIARIA TREAT

Adolph's post on making canascione from April 8 2012 still gets tons of traffic year round.

It is a classic real ciociaria dish. Vey authentic.

Adolph loved to eat it so learned to make his own ones after his  mother passed away.

For me, I am not fussy about it. I prefer regular Easter chocolate.

Sonya made her Dad his last canascione. April 2020.

Now she will carry on the Di Mambro tradition.
