GRANPA WOULD LIKE SOME BARBECUE FOOD

Winter and indoors has made the meals well indoor meals. With warmer weather anticipated, it is time to think about barbecue options. So saving any paper that helps to get the charcoals lit is on the agenda. Adolph does not like a gas barbecue so we still use charcoal. Mostly steaks but a pork chop or some pork tenderloin grilled are our favourite meals. We will grill some veggies too like zucchini and eggplant. So thinking of barbecuing gives the feel of winter behind us.

JULY 1ST BARBECUE FUN

A wonderful Canada Day at Sonya and Andrew's home. We all brought food. Barb bought those Maple Leaf Shaped Sobey's burgers.
Lots of salads- Kale, Tossed, Caesar, Potato, Bean. Burgers, hot dogs, sausage, chicken on skewers! Chips, veggies and dip! Desserts and drinks.
Canada day stuff to help with the celebrations.
The kids swam in the pool with parental and grandparent supervision. Of course, Granpa needed an after dinner nap.

A GREAT CANADIAN TRADITION-BARBECUE SEASON!

Barbecue season is back.

Simple meal of burgers, sausage with all the condiments like onion, pickle, tomato, ketchup, mustard and relish- Barb likes it, I don't. Put on a favourite hamburg or hot dog bun!
The Canadian Barbecue! A little bit of fruit with the watermelon or an apple as an easy and wonderful addition to the meal! As you can see, I like the charcoal barbecue and not the gas one. It takes longer to get going but it is for me! So bring on spring/summer barbecuing. Can't wait to do steaks, chicken and grilled vegetables! Of course with as many meals outside as Barb insists on eating outdoors as much as possible.

WARM WEATHER BRINGS BACKYARD BARBECUES

Potato Salad is great for any summer meal especially a Saturday night meal on the back porch.
Chicken wings on the barbecue.
A simple tomato/cucumber salad with olive oil and vinegar.

Oh those summer meals with fresh bread and white wine. Love the outdoors and the relaxation.

GRANPA LOVES SUMMER BARBECUE COOKING

Summer barbecuing is so tasty. Last night steak barbecued with some corn on the cob cooked with the  husk. Accompanying the steak and corn a Greek salad using some romaine lettuce from the garden. Tonight chicken legs on the barbecue with grilled eggplant using the new grill accessory bought by Barb. Used the remainder of some meat sauce, making a few rigatoni along with fried zucchini pieces and peppers- picked fresh from the garden for our meal. Of course we eat outside as much as possible. Barb works inside all day so wants as much of the outdoor life as possible. I like to annoy Barb as soon as we eat asking what should we have for dinner tomorrow. She always reminds of the story of her first trip to Italy in 1991. My cousin Maria Pia was a great cook and would spend hours cooking the evening meal. At one of Barb's first meals, everyone was eating the delicious food, not commenting on it but talking about what would be for dinner the next day. Well it's an Italian thing, what can I say?

BARBECUE SEASON CANADIAN STYLE

Although some people barbecue year round, I prefer the warmer weather. It is more enjoyable to take the food from the grill and sit outside to eat. For the record, I do not use a gas barbecue but still prefer the charcoal and smaller unit.  Steaks, chops and chicken are the meals so far. Barb bought me a new grilling pan so maybe I will use it when some of the fresh veggies are ready from the garden. She has trips planned over the next few months to markets and farms so I know I will be buying lots of fresh produce as it becomes available. There are many ways to use the barbecue. Potatoes wrapped in tin foil can be put in the coals to cook. Sometimes I precook them a little in the microwave before wrapping and putting in the fire.  Even corn on the cob tastes better grilled and not boiled in water. As the season progresses, I am sure to have some delights to share with you. Tonight I will be cooking some lean pork tenderloin cut into pieces. We had some last week. It was quite tasty. I bought a large piece and divided it into portions for two. So Canadians coast to coast are in full swing of barbecue season.
