GRANPA LOVED HIS CIAMELLA BUNS


 Adolph loved a ciamella bun with his coffee every morning.

They are tasty with the anise flavour. If a little hard a quick 20 second buzz in the microwave can soften them.

They freeze well too. So buying several and having them available is always a good thing.

GRANPA LOVED TO MAKE COMFORT FOOD-HOMEMADE PASTA WITH MEAT SAUCE IS ONE OF THEM


 One of Adolph's favourite meals was homemade egg noodle pasta with a meat sauce.

His meals were not gourmet. Just good home cooking.

I miss seeing him cook. 


This was the last batch we made together in November 2018.




On a cold winter day, a good plate of pasta is so comforting.

GRANPA MADE GOOD STIR FRY AND STUFFED RED PEPPERS

Bean sprout stir fry with chicken and carrots was a good quick easy meal that Adolph made.


I love red peppers so when Adolph made stuffed red peppers it was a hit. Simple with some ground beef, onion, diced garlic and bread crumbs with a touch of olive oil as stuffing inside the cleaned red pepper. Bake in medium heat oven until done.  I still make some stuffed red peppers occasionally.
 

Then combining the stir fry with stuffed peppers was always a good meal.

If a special occasion topping it off with cake like for a January birthdays.
 What a comfort meal!!

GRANPA MADE SOUPS IN JANUARY- TIME TO WARM THE SOUL

 Oh how I miss Adolph's soup.

The aroma in the house. 

With fresh buns or bread or toasted garlic bread always a hit.



  • A warm soup on the stove in a large pot. More than enough for one meal. 
  • I used to take some to work. It always made for a good lunch.

GRANPA LOVED A NEW YEAR'S MEAL- SURF AND TURF

 So for New Year's Day I will have a lobster tail and steak.

One of Adolph's favourites.

With a little garlic bread of course.





Such a classic New Year's meal.

GRANPA MADE A WONDERFUL SEAFOOD CHRISTMAS EVE DINNER

 Adolph's cooking will always be missed.

I loved his seafood dishes.


Baccala soup with a pinch of raisins the way his mother made it.
Cod frying.
Calamari rings.
Crab was always good.
Fish with a pinch of parsley.
Seafood sauce on homemade egg noodles.
Scallops were one of my favourites.
Adolph's seafood sauce.
Scrimps made the easy way.

Fish breaded was an easy way to eat another dish.

So the memories of a good meal will have to suffice.

GRANPA LOVED STRUFFOLl OR HONEY BUBBLES

 Granpa or Adolph really loved struffoli or honey bubbles.

His mother would make three of them and Adolph would eat two.

He made it after she passed away.

Now Sonya makes some for the family.


So family traditions continue.

I need to research which area of Italy the dish originates.
