WHAT ARE YOUR CHRISMAS TRADITIONS-GRANPA LOVED STUFFOLI OR HONEY BUBBLES

 I need to find the recipe.

My daughter Sonya made stuffoli for her Dad one year.

Adolph would eat a whole round stuffoli his mother made by himself.


Always a family favourtie. It brings so many memories of my mother-in-law Concetta making it and of course Adolph eating it.

Adolph did make it  a few times after his mother died.

The torch has been passed to his girls, just saying!

GRANPA LOVED TO COOK DURING THE FESTIVE SEASON

 I will be revisiting some of Adolph's favourite meals during the festive season.

My daughter Sonya has used several of his recipes and family dishes as well.

So I need to scan her recipes and share here for all to peruse.

I need a trip to Grande Cheese where many good Italian items can be purchased. 

Once most of Christmas preparations are finished like my Christmas Cards I hope to post more on this site.

NOVEMBER BIRTHDAYS BRING TIME TO CELEBRATE-MAKE GNOCCHI FOR ONE

 Adolph always made gnocchi for one daughter whose birthday is the end of November.

I would be his sous chef. He kneaded the dough. I rolled the dough then cut the pieces with him.

Rolled on a fork or the gnocchi potatoe masher to make the little pieces.

So why I am writing this? Maybe it is time to make some gnocchi again with the cooler weather.

OCTOBER-GRANPA STARTED TO MAKE SOUPS AND SAUCES

 One of my favourite foods Adolph made were his variety of soups.

Especially his veggie soup. He would make extra when I was working so I could take some for my lunch.

He started to make more homemade noodles and gnocchi which he gave a certain portion to his working daughters.

So yesterday I made a pork roast with potatoes, carrots and squash. Packaged gravy rounded out the flavour of the meal.

Too much food of course so I will probably freeze two dinners for another day.

THANKSGIVING PREPARATIONS= SHOPPING FOR THE BIG FEAST

 Many items can be bought ahead of the day.

A good buy on a frozen turkey a couple of weeks ago at Freshco.

I cashed in some Optimum Points and bought squash, sweet potato, a fresh bag of potoatoes, brussel sprouts and small potatoes, frozen peas, large carotts and of course the Vanilla Ice Cream for dessert.

So off to Longos today for the Italian sausages to add to the big turkey.

For me Thanksgiving is the Harvest Home meal. What wonderful local vegetables can be bought to honour the local farmers.



And some cut sunflowers to put near my beloved Adolph- Grandpa to you.

MEMORIES OF GRANDPA AT LANGSTAFF SECONDARY SCHOOL-1969


 Adolph started at Langstaff half way through Grade 10 when he moved to Richmond Hill.

He played violin in the school orchestra and was in the Spring Concert.

Basketball and soccer were two sports he enjoyed.

Finishing Grade 13 he went on to University of Waterloo the Fall of 1969.

He met his High School Sweetheart Barb.

So Langstaff has many memories for him.

 Making fried zucchini flowers was a favourite of my children that their Nonna made in the summer time.

PEACH, PROSCIUTTO AND BOCCONCINI MEDALLION BITES BY HOUSE OF KERRS- FRIDAY NIGHT WITH STEAK

 I thought I would try the Peach, Prosciutto and Bocconcini Medallion bites.

So easy to make.

I went to one of my favourite stores- Grande Cheese- the Richmond Hill location on Yonge Street to buy a variety of bocconcini. Sonya had recommended different ones.



Peaches, prosciutto, bocconcini and fresh basil. Actually the basil was from my little veggie garden in pots on my back porch.


The peaches were to be in quarters. The peaches I had were small so I included all the pieces. I sliced the large bocconcini in slices like Sonya stated. So peaches, prosciutto, sliced bocconcini and fresh basil torn up to place on the cheese on the peaches. Wrapping the peach, cheese, basil ingredients with prosciutto and then securing with an appetizer skewer.



Since some of the peach pieces were small the skewers really helped to anchor all the ingredients. I did dip some in balsamic vinegar. They were so tasty. Yes so easy to make. The leftovers ingredients are in the middle.

A little Mojito drink with fresh mint from my mini garden. Basically, put ice, squeeze lime juice, a little sugar, club soda in a glass of choice and stir. If you want a little rum or other alcoholic beverage to taste. But the drink without alcohol is rather a soothing drink for an evening meal or to sit outside enjoying the nice weather.

The idea of using seasonal fruit especially peaches is so rewarding in the summer season.

Ontario fruit and vegetables are a must.

PEACH RICOTTA PIZZA FOR A SUNDAY NIGHT BY HOUSE OF KERRS -GRANPA WOULD BE PROUD

 I decided to try House of Kerrs Peach Ricotta pizza.

House of Kerrs

Buying some fresh Ontario peaches to use for the recipe. The pizza dough is ready made from Grande Cheese here in Richmond Hill. I bought freshly cut prosciutto.

Let it be a little warm to air to be able to spread it.
Ricotta with some diced garlic for taste. Peaches cut in slices. Breaking up the prosciutto in pieces.
Pizza ready for the oven with some parmigiano cheese sprinkled on top.

Cooked with the crust a little golden brown eaten fresh from the oven.

There are more peach recipes I may try. I put some slices in the freezer as it was too much to eat by myself. they will be good for a quick lunch or dinner with other food another time.

So buying some peaches, porsciutto and ricotta yesterday gave me the idea to make this pizza.

LEMON ARUGULA + FENNEL SALAD BY HOUSE OF KERRS

 Adolph and I loved fennel. Usually just with olive and vinegar with some seasoning to taste.

This recipe is so simple and would add to any summer dinner or buffet or barbecue spread.

GRANPA LOVES TO COOK AND MAKE PANCAKES ON CANADA DAY

 So on my walk today I thought about Adolph and how he loved to make pancakes for his grandchildren.

Pancakes and bacon with maple syrup is a Canadian staple.

So to carry on the tradition I made some for me.


Eating alone on my cozy front table with my appetite fixed and thinking about other Canada Days with family.

But I will not be alone as I am headed to a daughter's house for a barbecue dinner. Steak of course.

EATALY PURE FLOUR FROM EUROPE EVENT- GRANPA WOULD HAVE LOVED IT

 What fun to attend a Media Event with my daughter Sonya.

At Eataly on Bloor Street in Toronto, Pure Flour from Europe was the theme of the event.

Prosecco and some buschetta started the evening off. 

A slice of pizza with two different kinds on it. 

The Chef- Julien Spiewak made delicious food. Three dishes of pasta made with the flour.

So I did some basic research. The flour is organic soft wheat. Durum flour and semolina are made from this sourced product throughout Italy and Europe.

There is an Italian Association of Millers. (ITALMOPA)



We all received a gift bag with information that I still need to read. An apron and tote bag will be handy for future events.

There were a variety of media people present. Sonya did a fun post on her Instagram after the event. Look for House of Kerrs in your instagram feeds.
The Consular General from the Italian Consulate in Toronto was present along with other Toronto media people. Toronto was just one of their media stops in North America.




The most fun was just being downtown, riding the subway and being with my daughter. Of course the food rounded out the event.
Adolph would have enjoyed an event like that one. So I represent Granpa whenever I can. Even though he loved to cook and eat, Nana loves to eat too.

FOOD MEMORIES ARE THE BEST AND GRANPA GAVE US SO MANY

Coming home each night to a home cooked meal was such a blessing.

EASTER MEAL WAS A FAVOURITE OF GRANPA-LAMB LASAGNA CANASCIONE

Mostly he liked it because there was no turkey. 

 Adolph loved to make homemade pasta either spaghetti or lasagna.



Adolph's homemade lasagna was always a hit. His recipe can be found in a link on the sidebar of past posts.

Lamb was marinated with lemon, garlic and rosemary before cooking.
